Earlier this year in Berlin, 23,000 people took to the streets to let the government know they had had enough of current farming practices. Last weekend a similar, albeit smaller scale, demonstration took place in Amsterdam. And the story doesn’t end there. This Friday – March 30th will see the protest taken to Vienna…
Estera Waas and Christel de Haas, who organised the We zijn het MEGAzat event which took place in Amsterdam on March 17th 2012, told ARC2020 the demonstration had been a great succes. “Even though we hoped for several thousands to show up, 1000 people were at the protest march. Some people warned us that there would only be a few hundred”.
Organisers held a debate with 4 politicians on stage, with several speakers who are against factory farms. You can find images and more information on the march here: http://www.wezijnhetmegazat.nl/
The organisers told ARC2020 they will keep organising protests in The Netherlands untill something changes for the better. It is hoped the next one will be held in October, perhaps around World Animal Day.
