The TRANSMANGO Consortium, would like to invite you to participate as a stakeholder at a one-day meeting on the 10th of September 2015 in Leuven (close to Brussels). Your expertise and participation in this highly interactive meeting will contribute to develop, together with 30 key actors in the European food system, multi-dimensional scenarios that will be used directly in the planning of a range of European food initiatives, as well as serving as guidance for several EU-level policy processes, and as scenarios for the Horizon 2020 SUSFANS sister program which focuses on the development of a food and nutrition security modelling toolbox. The workshop itself will involve the use of a novel participatory modelling approach. The time horizon for these scenarios will be 2050 but there will be a strong focus on mid-term changes.
The vulnerability of European food systems has been explored by several recent foresight studies, but there has been no comprehensive evaluation of the vulnerabilities of European food systems vis-à-vis future shocks and stresses, and how these may affect FNS.
TRANSMANGO is an interdisciplinary research project funded by the EU that focuses on the vulnerability and resilience of European food systems in a context of socioeconomic, behavioural, technological, institutional and agro-ecological change. It aims to enhance understanding of the new challenges and opportunities that the food sector will face in the future, to identify and enable transition pathways to improved food and nutrition security for Europe’s future. The TRANSMANGO process consists of the following steps:
- The development of a range of qualitative and quantitative scenarios for the future of European food and nutrition security
- The participatory down-scaling of these scenarios with high-potential food initiatives in 10 case studies, to be used as contexts to explore diverse transition pathways
- The use of scenarios and EU-transition pathways to aid in the review and design of EU-level policies and investment
