On February 2nd, the ARC was represented in a public hearing at European Economic and Social Committee. Antje Kölling, Policy Coordinator at IFOAM-EU Group, spoke on behalf of the ARC and outlined our view in response to the hearing’s overall theme “The CAP towards 2020: what is lacking in the Commission proposal”. She stressed in her speech that on the Commission proposal is missing a clear solution to encourage member states to strengthen 2nd pillar measures – if the Commission wants to keep the 2 pillar system – as they are of great importance to make rural areas and farms vital for the future. Additionally, she called for a more ambitious greening of farm support, stronger and more comprehensive measures on food security in a global context and more focus on health aspects of farm policy.
