Berlin – the German government has responded to a inquiry from the Green coalition (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) regarding their position on the EU Commission’s legislative proposals for CAP reform. In a statement released on 24th January, they outline their support for the proposals that part of the direct payments to farmers should be linked to measures which serve the environment and climate.

The Greens also requested information on whether the government supports the proposed disbursement of funds for environmental regulations to avoid monocultures. The government responded that it supports the so-called crop diversification when features such as farm size and proportion of permanent grassland are also taken into consideration.
