The Proposal for a REGULATION OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL establishing Horizon 2020 – The Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (2014-2020) has been released.
Of particular interest is the second item within Part III Societal Challenges (page 62 – 65). This section discusses Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture, Marine and Maritime Research and the Bio-Economy.
The specific objective, as stated, is to secure sufficient supplies of safe and high quality food and other bio-based products, by developing productive and resource-efficient primary production systems, fostering related ecosystem services, along side competitive and low carbon supply chains.
