As the Danish Council presidency draws to a close, European agricultural ministers will come together in Luxembourg for their monthly meet. A central part of the event will be the presentation of a progress report on the CAP reform so far. The report, which was published last week, will be presented by Mette Gjerskov, Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries of Denmark.

The report indicates the main amendments suggested by the Presidency to the Commission’s proposals, and those where there has been broad support from delegations. It also identifies key issues which remain outstanding for each of the proposals. The report reiterates their determination to deliver real simplification.

Also on the agenda, is a public debate on the specific issue of rural development within the framework of the CAP reform.  The Council could also adopt conclusions on the protection and welfare of animals. Finally, ministers will be briefed on protection of sows in the member states, the G20 agriculture meeting in Mexico, the impact of antimicrobial resistance, a report on organic production and the market situation for milk and milk products.
